The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to present the budget on Thursday. While announcing the presentation of Budget, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar took a jibe at the BJP and said that Shiv Sena is ready for the upcoming BMC elections and this time also Shiv Sena will win.

Pednekar said, "Budget will be presented tomorrow. Shiv Sena doesn't present 'Jumle Ka Budget', keeping in view elections, but we present a pro-people Budget. Shiv Sena is fully ready for the upcoming BMC elections & will win this time also". The budget for the year 2022-23 will be presented by Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal in the Standing Committee on 3 February.

Last year the BMC had unveiled the budget of Rs 39038 crores. So it is expected that this time it can be more than Rs 40 thousand crores.

Experts believe that, in view of the Corona crisis, more attention is expected to be given on health services and hospitals in the budget. infrastructure projects and education are expected to get big allocations.it will also set aside money for beautification of traffic islands and footpaths.

With the corporation earning record collections in premium from builders, no new taxes are likely to be proposed in the run-up to the municipal election, save for a nominal increase in charges for water and other services.

Officials said apart from big ticket projects, the BMC will keep funds aside for Mumbai's Climate Action Plan (MCAP).

The government has recently decided to waive off the entire property tax for houses up to 500 sq ft in Mumbai. Its effect is also expected to be seen in the budget.
