The BMC introduced a budget in excess of Rs 30,000 crores for the financial year 2019-20, after two relatively lower budgets for the last two financial years. The 9.98 km coastal road would link Marine Drive to the south end of the Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) and would include an undersea tunnel which would run from Marine Lines near the Princess Street Flyover to Priyadarshani park.
Rs 100 crore has been allocated to other major projects like Goregaon Mulund Link Road.
A budget allocation of Rs 100 crore has been made to develop a Waste to Energy Plant at the Deonar dump. BMC plans to issue work order for it by May 1 this year.
The budget has emphasised on cleanliness and fund has been allocated for collecting, transportation, dispose and refuse of waste, beach cleaning and sanitation measures.
BMC has acquired seven acres Mafatlal Mill plot adjacent to Byculla zoo premises. The development works on this plot will start by May 2019. A provision of Rs 110.78 crores has been proposed for zoo development works.

For Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) budgetary allocation is Rs 100 crore.The construction of 14-km GMLR required about Rs 4000 crore. Last year, civic body had made Rs 100 crore allocation.
BMC allocates Rs. 11,480.42 crores for the capital expenditure for improving the infrastructure and other important areas of the city.The amount has been allocated for spending on development projects like roads, storm water drains, bridges, solid waste management and water projects.
Mumbai, February 4: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which is the richest municipal corporation in not only India but Asia, will present its annual budget today, on Monday for the financial year 2019-20. According to a report in the Indian Express, this year's BMC budget will see an increase of about 25 per cent as compared to the budgets of last two years. One important provision that the BMC will make room for in the budget is the implementation of seventh pay commission. The BMC has a fixed reserve of Rs 70,000 crore of fixed deposits in the form of pensions, provident funds and infrastructure projects. The BMC aims to use these funds for infrastructure projects.
The BMC has faced a lot of heat over lack of expenditure on important projects and not utilizing the funds. In the last few years, only 25 to 35 percent of the budget was utilised by the municipal corporation.
However, the expectations this time would be high considering it's an election year. No new taxes are expected to be introduced. Also, existing taxes are unlikely to see any increase.
