New Delhi, November 11: Delhi Air quality continues to be in the severe category on Sunday morning. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 423 which is in a severe category. The air quality improved to 'very poor' on Saturday morning but turned 'severe' by evening due to unfavourable weather condition. Authorities informed that the air quality worsened due to heavy stubble burning in the neighbouring states.

Delhi has also witnessed a rise in high smog levels in the past few days for vehicle emission and industrial gases. It is reported that stubble burning in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana is likely to increase post-Diwali which increases the risk of turning Delhi's AQI to ‘emergency’ category. The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) said PTI that, the stubble burning in neighbouring states was the “largest-ever recorded” this year which might lead to further deterioration of air quality in the national capital. Delhi Air Pollution: Emergency Plan Rolled Out.

It is noted that AQI between 0 and 50 comes under 'good  air quality category', 51 and 100 'satisfactory air quality category', 101 and 200 ‘moderate air quality category’, 201 and 300 ‘poor  air quality category’, 301 and 400 'very poor  air quality category' , and 401 and 500 ‘severe  air quality category’.
