New Delhi, December 28: In an embarrassing moment, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's speech was interrupted by workers of the BJP who mocked him by coughing in chorus at an event in the national capital on Thursday. Union minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari had to intervene after which the BJP workers let Arvind Kejriwal start his speech. The video of the incident was going viral on social media.

Kejriwal was about to begin his address when BJP workers stood before him and started coughing apparently to mock the AAP chief's ailment. Visibly embarrassed Kejriwal requested the crowd to maintain silence but they paid no heed. As the heckling became louder, Nitin Gadkari intervened and asked the attendees to stop. "Please keep quiet. This is an official event," he said. Union minister Harsh Vardhan also came forward to shush the crowd. Arvind Kejriwal Quashes Report on Amendment in AAP Constitution to Clear Decks For His Third Stint as National Convenor.

The event, jointly held by the National Mission for Clean Ganga and the Delhi Jal Board, aimed at launching a campaign to clean the Yamuna. The event was also attended by Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Minister of State for Water Resources Satyapal Singh and a number of BJP parliamentarians from Delhi. Watch the video of the incident below:

Kejriwal had been suffering from a persistent form of cough for over 40 years. He recovered after corrective surgery in September 2016. This is not the first time the Delhi Chief Minister has been mocked over his past ailment. Earlier, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu allegedly mocked Kejriwal's cough two years ago.
