Gandhinagar, June 03: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday issued a show cause notice to its MLA Balram Thawani for beating a woman Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader in Gujarat’s Naroda. On Sunday, Thawani was captured on camera thrashing and kicking the woman on street. According to reports, the woman identified as Nitu Tejwani had gone to the BJP MLA’s office for complaining about water issues in the area. After facing flak, Thawani apologised for his actions saying she was like her sister. He said that he had cleared out misunderstandings. Tejwani also said that she now considers Thawani as her brother. Tejwani even tied a Rakhi to the BJP MLA in front of all the media.

After the video of the incident went viral on social media, Thawani had said, “I got swayed by emotions. I accept the mistake, it was not intentional. I have been in politics for the last 22 years but such a thing has never happened before. I will say sorry to her.” The dispute started last week when Thawani's brother Kishor had gone to supervise the disconnection of an allegedly illegal water connection near Maya Cinema.

On Sunday, Tejwani, a ward-in-charge of NCP, had gone to meet Thawani. She also attempted to stage a protest outside his office. Earlier, Thawani had claimed that he acted in self-defence.
