Biplab Deb at it Again: 'Rearing Ducks Will Raise Oxygen Levels in Water Bodies'; List of 'Absurd' Statements by Tripura CM
Deb said his government would be providing 50,000 white ducklings to villagers for rearing in the Rudrasagar lake.
Agartala, Aug 28: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb drew flak again from critics for his contentious statement while speaking at the inaugural event of a traditional boat race in Rudrasagar. The BJP leader said rearing ducks in the Rudrasagar lake will "automatically" increase oxygen levels in the water body.
Deb said his government would be providing 50,000 white ducklings to villagers for rearing in the water body. The move, he added, will provide pisciculture benefits as bird droppings will help the fishes to grow organically.
"When ducks swim in water, oxygen level automatically increases in the waterbody. It (oxygen) gets recycled. Fish in the water will get more oxygen," the Tripura CM was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Reacting to Deb's remark, the Tripura Juktibadi Vikas Mancha - a body promoting science and rationalism in the state - said the Chief Minister should be careful while issuing "unscientific" statements.
Mancha leader Mihir Lal Roy said the remarks of Deb were mere "loose talk" as there is no credible scientific basis to suggest that swimming of ducks in water bodies raises the oxygen level.

Deb, a debutant politician with no previous experience to hold a constitutional office, has stoked an array of controversies through his speeches after being elected as the Tripura CM.
- Internet during Mahabharata days:
"India has been using internet since ages. In Mahabharata, Sanjay was blind, but he narrated what was happening on the battlefield to Dhritarashtra anyway. This was due to internet and technology. The satellite also existed during that period."
- Civil engineers apt for civil services:
"After pursuing mechanical engineering one should not go for Civil Services. Instead, civil engineers should join Civil Services as they have the knowledge and experience to help build administration and society."

"Aishwarya Rai is okay as she somewhere can represent Indian beauty. Real Indian beauty should be like Laxmi, Saraswati, but in Diana Hayden I can’t find any of them."
- Paan shops and cow-milking better alternative than searching for Govt jobs:
CPM state secretary Bijan Dhar said a series of controversial statements are deliberately issued to distract the people away from real issues. Dhar claimed that the BJP-IPFT government has no roadmap to fulfill the promises they made before the elections.
