Bikaner, April 25: Residents of a village were terrified after learning about a startling instance of land sink wherein a farm had reportedly sunk 70 feet below the surface overnight. The incident took place in Sahagrasar village of Lunkaransar region in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district on April 16. According to the reports, the incident was first witnessed by a farmer after he reached his farm. Around 1.5 acres of ground had sunk inside, swallowing up the nearby trees and the road.
As the word spread, many youngsters reached the spot in order to take selfies and film Instagram reels. However, upon receiving information, the authorities imposed Section 144 in the area and took control of the situation. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, April 24, a team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) arrived at the site for an official inspection, to determine the cause of the sinking of the land. The GSI team believes that at some point in the past, there must have been a water reservoir beneath the ground. Though, the earth later got damp after the water dried up. Moreover, a thorough study will be conducted by the GSI in an effort to reveal the reason behind the land subsidence. What Are Sinkholes? Meanwhile, Lunkaransar resident and social worker Shreyansh has also sent a letter to PM Narendra Modi and demanded to conduct a scientific survey in the matter. He said that it is a natural disaster but investigation should still be done so that people can protect themselves against such incidents in future.
