Patna, December 17: In a piece of tragic news, a woman who was set ablaze on December 7 in Muzaffarpur allegedly by a neighbour after she resisted his rape attempt, succumbed to her injuries today. The 23-year-old victim had suffered 50 per cent burns in the incident and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the Muzaffarpur town.

The incident took place when the woman was alone at home and the accused, who lived close by, sneaked into her house and tried to rape her. Her mother -- who works at a primary health centre -- rushed home and took her to a hospital after a local informed her about the incident, the SHO added. The incident happened in less than a week after charred bodies of two women, set afire after suspected rape and murder, was found in Buxar and Samastipur districts. Earlier this month, a 20-year-old college student was set on fire by a man after the girl repeatedly turned down his love proposals. There has been a tremendous rise in atrocities against women.
