Patna, September 29: At least three people died after a wall collapsed after heavy rains in Bihar's Bhagalpur on Sunday. According to reports, several people were feared trapped under debris following the wall collapse. A rescue team was present at the accident site to extract trapped people. In a separate incident, four people died after a tree fell on an auto-rickshaw in Khagaul. Several parts of Bihar have been witnessing incessant rainfall since Thursday and many districts are facing floods.

On Saturday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered all the district collectors to continue monitoring the situation and relief measures till October 15. Following heavy rains, train services were temporarily suspended on the Samastipur-Darbhanga and Gaya-Koderma routes in the state. In Patna, commuters on two-wheelers were seen wading through knee-deep waters. Pedestrians were also stranded for hours due to waterlogged roads and bridges.

Water Resources Department officials said that water levels in all the rivers in the state were rising leading to inundation in towns and rural areas and putting pressure on the embankments. According to officials, water gushed into dozens of villages in Muzaffarpur, West Champaran, East Champaran, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur. In Muzaffarpur, heavy rainfall has resulted in waterlogging in the entire town.

"The town is submerged due to failure of the drainage system and the water has entered the Sadar Hospital," said an official. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains will continue at isolated places in Bihar today.
