Patna, August 28: In a shocking incident in Bihar's Vaishali district, members of a family were attacked with acid reportedly for objecting to stalking a girl of their family on Wednesday. As many as 16 members of the extended family were injured in the acid attack. The incident took place at Daudnagar village under Vaishali police station area. The police, however, said the clash between members of two families erupted after a fight among the children.
Of the injured persons, eight are said to be in a serious condition and have been admitted to a government hospital in Hajipur. According to the family members of the girl, she was stalked and harassed by the accused men for the last several days. The family said they had reprimanded the alleged stalkers and threatened them with legal action. However, it did not deter them, said the girl's family. On Tuesday, a group of men arrived at the village and picked up a quarrel with locals and family members of the girl. They fired in the air to terrorise the family. However, some elders intervened and helped mediate a truce, Hindustan Times reported. But on Wednesday morning, a group of people allegedly forced their way into the house of Devendra Bhagat and attacked the family with acid.
“Nearly 20 people attacked the family to teach them a lesson. Sixteen people were injured in the acid attack. It appeared that the trouble started with quarrel among youths of both sides,” Raghav Dayal, Deputy Superintendent of Police was quoted as saying. The girl's family alleged that one Balindra Sharma had led the group of attackers. Two separate FIRs were lodged in the case and five persons, who allegedly threw the acid, have been arrested and are being interrogated.
