Patna, August 14: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday made a big announcement for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. The Chief Minister announced that students from SC/ST, Dalit & OBC communities will be given Rs 50,000 if they clear Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary Exams. Also, candidates, who clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Preliminary Exams will be given Rs 1 lakh.
In May, the Bihar cabinet headed by Nitish Kumar held a meeting and approved a proposal of SC-ST welfare department to provide assistance of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively to SC-ST students who pass the UPSC and BPSC.
Reports inform that the scheme under which SC-ST students will be provided aid has been named "Anusuchit Jati evam Anusuchit Janjati Yojana". According to a report by India Today, the state cabinet has also passed a proposal to provide 15 kg of free food grain which includes rice and wheat to students living in hostels run by SC-ST welfare department, OBC-EBC welfare department and minority affairs welfare department.
