Bihar: Minor Girl Sexually Harassed in Nalanda District; Case Registered Under POCSO Act

Patna, July 10: In a shocking incident, a minor girl from Usmanpur was sexually harassed by two men in Nalanda district of Bihar on July 8. The video of the entire incident was made public on July 9. Police have arrested the son of a village sarpanch who is the main accused in the case. The other accused has been absconding. The police have registered a case against both the accused under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
On June 24, in a similar incident, one person was arrested after the video of a girl being sexually harassed in Kaimur district of Bihar went viral on social media. Some men sexually harassed the girl in Masahi village on May 27. The accused also made a video and uploaded on social media. The police registered an FIR in the case after which one accused was arrested.
Earlier in May, another girl was harassed in Kaimur district and the video surfaced on social media. In that case, six persons recorded the incident. According to data released by Bihar police, 289 rapes cases were registered till March this year. In 2017, a total of 1,198 cases were registered whereas in 2016, as many as 1,008 cases of rape were reported.
