Patna, November 22: The Bihar government has received a total of five lakh applications for 186 Group-D posts this month. According to Bihar Education Minister and Janata Dal-United (JDU) leader KN Prasad Verma, a large number of applications were received because of increase in unemployment. Expressing concern over the state of unemployment, Verma said that the issue can be resolved with the adoption of innovative techniques. Employment Increased in May-August 2019 Period, Low-Skilled Jobs Lead: CMIE Report.

Speaking to news agency, ANI Verma said, “It is because there is unemployment. Number of jobs is limited, while number of candidates is increasing. There is a need to adopt a technique to solve this problem.” The Bihar minister’s statement came days after the unemployment rate in the month of October jumped to 8.5 percent. As per the data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the rise in the unemployment rate in October was the highest since August 2016. However, during May-August 2019, around 404.9 million people were employed in India. Around 2.5 million more people were employed as compared to the same period last year. According to a recent RBI survey, the consumer confidence also dipped to a six-year low in September. The Centre is also facing flak from opposition over the rising unemployment and prevailing economic slowdown.
