Patna, March 1: In a shocking incident, the driver of Janata Dal-United spokesperson Dr Sunil Kumar was thrashed by four armed men and looted him of a luxury car from Pataliputra locality on Wednesday night, said police. The robbery comes days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state capital on March 3.

According to the police, the incident took place when the JD(U) leader was watching a movie with his friends at P&M Mall, while his car was parked, with Dr Kumar’s driver inside it, at Notre Dame Academy. The accused then snatched the driver’s phone and fled with the vehicle at 7.30pm, says the complainant. Soon after the incident, the driver reached Dr Kumar’s house and informed Dr Kumar’s wife, while the JD(U) leader was still watching the movie. Even Dr Kumar’s phone was switched off, added police.

Briefing more about it, Dr Kumar said, as Hindustan Times reports, “As I switched on phone after exiting the cinema hall, I received my wife’s call. She asked me to stay inside the mall until police provided security. She told me what had happened at the parking lot. I informed the ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan and DIG Patna Rajesh Kumar about the incident. I returned home under the police escort.”

Adding more, he said. “I do not have animosity with anyone. I could not sleep the entire night. The worry is that they had come looking for me. My driver and I are cooperating with police.”

Pataliputra police have lodged a robbery case against unidentified people and are investigating the matter. DIG Rajesh Kumar said police would soon arrest the culprits.
