Patna, June 22: Human skeleton remains were found on Saturday behind the Sri Krishna Medical College & Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, where over 130 children have died so far of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES). The recovered body parts have been sent for post-mortem. The inquiry would be furthered based on the autopsy report.

"Postmortem department is under Principal but it should be done with a humane approach. I'll talk to the Principal and ask him to constitute an investigating committee," said Dr SK Shahi, Medical Superintendent of SKMCH. Encephalitis in Bihar: Death Toll on the Rise, 8 Advanced Life Support Ambulances Deployed to Transport AES Patients in Muzaffarpur

The skeletal remains have been recovered amid the unprecedented number of deaths being registered at SKMCH -- the lone government hospital in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district equipped to treat patients with AES syndrome.

Update by ANI:

Earlier in the day, CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar visited the SKMCH to take stock of the medical infrastructure in place. The Nitish Kumar government came under harsh criticism after reports cited the lack of doctors, medicines and facilities for the spurt in encephalitis deaths.
