Patna, August 30: The Bihar government on Thursday banned jeans and t-shirts in the state secretariat and rolled out a dress code for all the employees. With the new order in place, government employees in the state will no longer be allowed to wear western outfits at work. The Nitish Kumar-led government  in the state issued a dress code asking the employees to wear simple attire to maintain the decorum of the workplace. In its notification, the state government said that the employees should wear simple, comfortable and light-coloured attire to work.

The ban on wearing jeans and T-shirts is applicable to everyone, irrespective of the employees' ranks. Reports inform that the order was issued by the Upper Secretary of the state government, Mahadev Prasad. "It has been noticed that officials and employees are coming to office in attires which are contrary to the office culture. This is against the office decorum", the order read. Prasad said that with the new order in place, all the employees will have to come to the office in formal dress at any cost.
