Patna, July 22: Normal life was hit in Bihar after floods and incessant rains continued to wreak havoc in several parts of the state. The deluge claimed 102 lives in Bihar till Sunday while about 72.78 lakh people form 12 districts have been hit by the calamity. The disaster management department in Bihar informed that all the fresh deaths in the state were reported from Madhubani district, which accounted for 23 casualties. According to a tweet by ANI, the locals of a village in Darbhanga complained of hardships due to flooding in the area following torrential rains. Bihar Floods: Water Levels Recede But Situation Remains Grim, Death Toll Mounts to 67.

The locals have set up temporary shelters next to national highway-57, in flood-affected Kakerghati village, in Darbhanga. Police says, arrangements being made to ensure safety of locals and to keep the road operational. The locals informed that it has been more than a week now that their homes have been flooded, but they are yet to receive help from the government. "We are bound to stay near the railway track. Reports inform that around 12 districts including Sheohar, Dharbangha, Sitamarhi, North Champaran, Madhubani, Araria, and Kishanganj have been severely affected due to water levels rising in rivers following torrential rains.  On Sunday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had visited relief camps in Sitamarhi and Darbhanga districts. With 27 deaths, Sitamarhi remained the worst-affected by the flash floods. In the last week, the Chief Minister had said that a total of 1.25 lakh people had been rescued so far in the state.

On July 19, the Chief Minister had begun the process of sending cash relief of Rs 6,000 directly into the bank accounts of flood-affected families.However, several people living in flood-hit areas have claimed that they have not received any aid from the government.
