Bihar Floods: All Schools in Darbhanga District to Remain Closed Till Further Orders

Death toll in the Bihar floods has jumped to 106, with two more fatalities reported earlier today. In Darbhanga district, which has faced the worst brunt of the natural calamity, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed two helicopters for succour.

Patna, July 24: All educational institutions in Bihar's Darbhanga district have been ordered to remain closed due to the ongoing flood situation. The order was issued on Wednesday by District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan SM. The schools will remain closed till the water-level completely recedes in the low-lying parts.

"All schools, both government and private, to remain closed till the next order, in the light of the floods," said the order issued by the DM's office. Death toll in the Bihar floods has jumped to 106, with two more fatalities reported earlier today. In Darbhanga district, which has faced the worst brunt of the natural calamity, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed two helicopters for succour.

A total of 80.55 lakh persons have been affected due to the floods in Bihar, which were triggered by incessent rainfall over the last fortnight.

Officials of the disaster management, however, claimed today that water levels have started receding in several districts and consequently the number of relief camps and those taking shelter at these has also gone down considerably.

In neighbouring Assam, over 28 lakh people have been affected by the floods, whereas, 75 persons have been reported dead.
