Bihar Cop Turns Up Drunk at His Wedding, Loses Bride; Gets Arrested

Reports inform that the accused, who was a Bihar policeman, arrived drunk at his wedding venue at a village in Bihar’s Bhagalpur. Despite the sale, consumption and storage of liquor being banned in Bihar since April 5, 2016, the policeman was found to have engaged in drinking.

Patna, January 20: In a bizarre incident, a wedding in Bihar was called off by the bride after she came to know that her fiance came drunk at the wedding venue and indulged in a braw with few guests in an inebriated condition. Reports inform that the accused, a Bihar cop, arrived drunk at the venue in a village in Bihar’s Bhagalpur area. The bride asked the fiancé to leave the wedding venue after she came to know that he created nuisance at the 'barat party' after being drunk.  According to a report by Hindustan Times, the constable, identified as Uday Rajak was posted in Nalanda and was arrested under the anti-liquor Act.  Rats Drank 1000 Litres of Seized Alcohol in Bareilly? The report informs that the ‘barat party’ had more than 50 members and a row erupted between members of the bride and some drunk men over playing music by DJ. According to reports, few relatives of the bride sustained injury in the quarrel. After the incident was reported, police did Uday’s breath analyser test, which confirmed that he was drunk. The accused was produced in a court on Saturday and was forwarded to jail on judicial remand.

According to details by eyewitnesses, the girl refused to marry Uday after she came to know that he arrived drunk at the venue. The groom’s family persuaded the girl but she remained firm with her decision. The report further quotes the girl saying that she was shocked to see him in an inebriated condition and said it won’t be possible for her to spend life with a man who was in a habit of consuming liquor.

As per Assistant superintendent of police (ASP), Kahalgaon, Dilnawaz Ahmad, the father of the girl lodged an FIR with Kahalgaon police station on Friday against bridegroom in this regard. Following the complaint, a case was lodged under Sections 341, 323, 504, 188, 290, and 34 of IPC besides Section 37(C) of Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2018.
