Patna, Aug 30: In a shocking instance of daylight crime in Bihar, a cash van guard was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Samastipur. The miscreants succeeded in fleeing with Rs 52 lakh from the spot after gunning him down.
The Samastipur police has launched a search operation to nab the accused. Checkpoints have been placed in parts of the town to apprehend them.
According to reports, the cash van had halted near the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) office located at the Tajpur Road. The accused fired bullets at the guard immediately after the vehicle stopped and fled with the loads of cash.

The deceased guard, identified as Bandhu Roy, was rushed to the local medical facility where he was declared dead on arrival.
According to a police official privy to the case, senior personnel of the Nagar Thana police station were sent to the spot after the crime was committed. The investigation so far has revealed that miscreants numbered around 5-6. Their identities were yet to be ascertained.
