Patna, November 11: A married couple from California attempted to cross into Nepal from Bihar’s Madhubani district on Saturday, November 9, without the necessary travel documents. While they were trying to pass through the Betaunha border outpost near Jainagar, authorities apprehended the couple. Two local individuals, suspected of assisting the pair during their stay in the Jainagar area, were also arrested for providing logistical support.
According to Jainagar Deputy SP Ankur Kumar, the woman, born in Nepal, married her US national husband and later obtained US citizenship. Both individuals were jointly interrogated by local police, SSB, and officials from other concerned agencies, as reported by Times Of India.
A joint interrogation was carried out by the local police, the SSB, and officials from other relevant agencies to understand the circumstances behind the couple's attempt to cross the border illegally. The authorities are continuing to investigate the matter further, and both the US nationals and the local individuals who assisted them are being questioned for their involvement.
Alongside the US nationals, two local individuals were also arrested for allegedly assisting the couple in their attempt to cross the border. These individuals are believed to have provided logistical support to the couple during their stay in the Jainagar area, close to the Indo-Nepal border. The local suspects are now facing charges related to aiding and abetting illegal border activities.
A formal case has been registered against the couple and the local individuals involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter, working to uncover the full extent of the network that may have facilitated the illegal border crossing. The arrested individuals are being held for further questioning as law enforcement agencies analyse the evidence and probe any potential connections to other illegal border activities.
