Patna, July 16: In a tragic incident, over 60 students have fallen ill apparently due to food poisoning at a hostel of Popular Academy School situated at Madina Market in Baisi on Sunday. The children were admitted to Baisi public health centre (PHC). As per reports, they are out of danger now.

“In all 66 students were rushed to district hospital soon after they took their dinner and began complaining of giddiness, uneasiness and vomiting. All of them are safe and out of danger,” reported Hindustan Times quoting Baisi sub-divisional officer (SDO) Sawan Kumar as saying. The Police has started probing the incident.

According to Hindustan Times' report, a total of 80 students lived in the school hostel at Baisi, and most of them fell ill within 5 to 15 minutes of taking the dinner. The civil surgeon of the hospital sent a team of doctors to Baisi, and all the ill students were rushed to the district hospital. The children are now out of danger and were discharged from the hospital. The senior doctor of the hospital confirmed that it was a case of food poisoning.

According to the report, the hostel director, Wali Asgar blamed that somebody from outside was involved in the incident to defame the institution. He also termed it as a conspiracy.  An FIR has been lodged against the director of the hostel.

In a similar incident, Nearly 100 students were fallen sick due to food poisoning at a government-run residential school in Bihar's Lakhisarai district. Students of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Barahiya complained of uneasiness soon after consuming dinner in their hostel late on Thursday.
