Purnia, Bihar: In a spine-chilling incident, a 40-year-old man allegedly killed his wife for dowry in Bihar’s Purnia district and kept her body at home for about a week. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, neighbours and relatives informed the police after a foul smell started emanating from the house. The accused, Mohammed Nasim was arrested on Wednesday. He is a resident of Dhamdaha in Purnia and works as  a medical representative.

According to the report, Nasim allegedly strangled his 22-year-old wife, Shahida Khatun at his rented house in Maulvi Tola under Town police station of the district. After committing the crime, he even slept next to the body for about a week. As per the police, the incident came to light when Mohammed Sabir Alam, brother-in-law of the victim, went to meet them on Tuesday evening. Before visiting their house, he had called them many times, but his calls remained unanswered.

After entering the house, Alam felt a stench coming out from the room . He then immediately called the police. After reaching the spot, the police broke open the door and found Shahida’s body lying on a bed with Nasim  sleeping next to the body. According to the report, he had burnt highly fragrant incense sticks to hide the foul smell. As per the police, the couple, who got married just two months ago they had a fight over dowry, following which Shahida was killed.

Purnia superintendent of police Vishal Sharma told Hindustan Times, “The accused has been arrested, and police are probing the case from various angles. The body has been handed over to the family after postmortem.” Shahida’s father, Atik Ansari, 60, a resident of Khareek in Bhagalpur. Ansari claimed that he had borrowed Rs 20,00 to meet demands of Nasim.
