Big Bazaar Fined Rs 11,518 For Charging Chandigarh Customer Rs 18 For Carry Bag

Future Group's Big Bazaar has been fined by the Chandigarh Consumer Forum for charging customers for carry bags. The Chandigarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal (SCDRC) has termed this as a deficiency in services and imposed a fine of Rs 11,518 on the retail chain.

Chandigarh, September 8: Future Group's Big Bazaar has been fined by the Chandigarh Consumer Forum for charging customers for carry bags. The Chandigarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal (SCDRC) has termed this as a deficiency in services and imposed a fine of Rs 11,518 on the retail chain. Big Bazaar was fined for charging Rs 18 extra for a carry bag, India Today reported. Domino's Fined Rs 5 Lakh For Charging Chandigarh Customer Rs 12 For Carry Bag.

According to a report, Saurav Kumar, a resident of Panchkula, filed a complaint with the Consumer forum when he was charged extra for a carry bag. Kumar, in his complaint, said that on February 21 he had gone to Big Bazaar to purchase goods and was asked to pay Rs 18 for a carry bag. He objected paying and told the cashier that he cannot be forced to buy the same. Bata Fined Rs 9,000 For Charging Chandigarh Customer Rs 3 For Carry Bag.

Kumar later approached Consumer Redressal dispute forum which then issued a notice to the retail chain. The store officials denied the allegations, India Today reported. The forum, however, rejected Big Bazar's plea saying that it is "not just carelessness but a deficiency in services."

"Big Bazaar owns a chain of stores throughout the country which is visited by the consumers in large numbers. Despite earning huge profits, innocent customers are being compelled to pay for carry bags by Big Bazaar. This is not just carelessness but a deficiency in services," the statement by SCDRC said.

Earlier too, the Chandigarh Consumer Forum has fined big brands for charging customers for a carry bags. Lifestyle was fined Rs 13000, Dominos Pizza Rs 10,500, Bata India Rs 11,000, and Westside was fined Rs 13,000 after they were found charging for carry bags.
