Bengaluru, July 18: A horrifying new video of the lynching of Hyderabad techie Mohammad Azam has emerged and shows how he was dragged by a rope and was crying for help while the mob continued to beat him up. Azam, an Accenture engineer working on a Google project, was lynched by a mob in Bidar earlier this week on suspicion of being a child lifter while three of his friends, Salham Eidal Kubaisi, Noor Mohammed and Mohammed Salman, were also beaten up.

The video also shows the police helplessly pleading with folded hands to the people to let Azam go while the mob ignores them and continues to brutally pull him with a rope and beat him up.

According to reports, Azam and his friends had stopped for tea near a school at Murki village in Aurad taluka at about 4.30 pm on Saturday, where Kubaisi gave foreign chocolates to children. Villagers misunderstood them as child lifters. Sensing the danger they fled from the spot, but somebody clicked their photos and spread the rumour of them being a child lifter on WhatsApp groups. The villagers of the next village after getting the message blocked the road and beat up the four.

Azam's family has refused to believe that the deceased techie looked like a child lifter. His brother has asked for stringent punishment for the accused and urged Telangana government to take up the issue with Karnataka for a proper investigation into the matter.

This is another such incident in a series of lynchings in a similar manner. At least 30 people have been lynched over the past two months on child lifting suspicion following fake messages circulated on WhatsApp. The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Centre to see if a new law can be framed in Parliament on lynching. The court said, "Horrendous acts of mobocracy cannot be allowed to become a new norm."
