Bibi Jagir Kaur, Former SGPC Chief, Acquitted by Punjab And Haryana High Court in Daughter's Mysterious Death Case

The Punjab and Haryana High Court acquited former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur on Tuesday in her daughter’s mysterious death case.

Chandigarh, December 04: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday acquitted former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur in her daughter’s mysterious death case. A two-judge bench comprising Justice AB Chaudhari and Justice Kuldip Singh pronounced the verdict at around 10 am today. In 2012, the special court awarded five years’ imprisonment held Jagir Kaur guilty of forceful abortion and illegal confinement of her daughter Harpreet Kaur. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader’s daughter had died under mysterious circumstances. Later, on the directions of the high court, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted an investigation, in which the agency found Jagir Kaur’s involvement in the death. The SAD leader could not contest the assembly elections of 2017 as her appeal which she filed in 2012 was pending in the high court. Golden Temple in Amritsar Will Soon Have Kitchen Running on Biogas Fuel.

Harpreet was reportedly in a relationship with a resident of Kapurthala district’s Begowal town Kamaljit Singh. Jagir Kaur, who was then the president of the SGPC, was against their marriage. At the time of her death on April 20, 2000, Harpreet was 19-years-old. The CBI in its appeal claimed that Harpreet was abducted on March 18, 2000, from Chandigarh. As per reports, her pregnancy was terminated against her will on March 20, 2000, at Kartarpur.
