Bhubaneswar, November 3: In Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, four men were arrested, and a teenage girl was detained for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in a city hotel and later extorting her and her family. According to police reports, the sex assault occurred on October 16 after the victim was lured to a hotel by Raja Pattnaik, 19, who allegedly drugged her. Alongside three other men, Deepak Behera, 19, Papu Diwedi, 23, and Prakash Behera, 21, Raja assaulted the girl while recording the act.

A 16-year-old accomplice allegedly assisted in the gang-rape and later demanded money from both the victim and her mother, threatening to release the obscene footage online if her demands weren’t met. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Pinak Mishra, the arrests were made following a complaint from the victim’s family, who reported repeated extortion calls. The accused successfully extorted INR 50,000 from the victim’s mother and INR 12,000 from the girl. Police revealed that the accused girl, familiar with the victim, had initially gained her trust by promising financial help. The accused allegedly exploited this trust on October 16, when Raja gave the victim a spiked soft drink and took her to a hotel, where the gang-rape occurred. Further investigation is ongoing.
