In another tragic incident, an 18-month-old baby was killed in a fight involving two families over a child urinating in the open. According to a Times of India report, the fight began after the 7-year-old child of Umesh Singh urinated in the common pathway of the locality.
Bhopal, October 4: In another tragic incident, an 18-month-old baby was killed in a fight involving two families over a child urinating in the open on Thursday. According to a Times of India report, the fight began after the 7-year-old child of Umesh Singh urinated in the common pathway of the locality in Sagar district. One of Umesh's neighbour, Mohar Singh asked the child and told his father to ensure that his son never defecates in the open.
This enraged Umesh Singh and his father and they both came armed with sticks to Mohar's house and started attacking him. In the middle of the fight, Mohar's 18-month-old child was attacked with a stick and he died on the spot. Both the accused were immediately arrested. SP of the area, however, suspects that the altercation might have started over open defecation, but can be another angle of personal enmity between both the families. On September 25, two minors— a 12-year-old girl and her 10-year-old nephew—were beaten to death by two persons in Bhavkhedi village of Shivpuri district apparently for defecating in the open.
This incidents continue to open inspite of the government claiming that they have achieved Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in rural India. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti recently, PM Narendra Modi declared rural India ODF. The announcement from Modi came as he told the public gathering that his government is on a record toilet building mission over the last five years
