Bhopal, May 1: In another incident of sexual abuse against minors, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in a busy tourist spot in Bhopal on Tuesday. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the girl’s body was found on Wednesday morning at Manuabhan, a popular tourist spot. According to the report, the girl’s parents filed her missing report at the Koh-e-Fiza police station on Tuesday evening. In the police report, they mentioned that she did not return from tuition. The body has been sent to post-mortem, and the police will take further action based on the post-mortem report. “We have picked up the girl’s aunt and two youths who lived in the girl’s neighbourhood and were familiar with the aunt,” reported Hindustan Times quoting DIG Irshad Wali as saying.

Meanwhile, last year in April, the Centre had approved an ordinance to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to award death sentence to the rapists of children below the age of 12. In case of rape of a girl under 16 years, minimum punishment increased from 10 years to 20 years, extendable to life imprisonment.
