Bhopal, September 26: While laying the foundation stone of the metro project in Bhopal on Thursday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced that the Bhopal metro will be named after Raja Bhoj and known as "Bhoj metro". Speaking at the event, Kamal Nath said that Bhopal is the city of Raja Bhoj and hence the metro here will be named after him. He said that the metro in other cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are named after the cities. However, the metro in Bhopal will be called "Bhoj Metro".

Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, State Ministers Jayawardhan Singh, PC Sharma, Dr Govind Singh, and Arif Akeel were also present. Alok Sharma, the Mayor of Bhopal Municipal Corporation, also welcomed the announcement.

However, Congress Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Arif Masood urged that the name of Bhopal metro should not be changed. "Let the Bhopal Metro be the Bhopal Metro. A lot has happened in the name of Raja Bhoj," he said.
