Bhiwandi, August 24: In a tragic incident, two people have died while five others have been critically injured after a four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai's Bhiwandi area on Saturday. According to a tweet by ANI, the fatal incident took place in Shanti Nagar area of Bhiwandi city in the wee hours of Saturday. As soon as the building collapsed, locals informed the Police and a rescue operation was launched and several people were rescued from the debris. The deceased have been identified as Siraj Ahmed Ansari (27) and Aakhib Ansari (22). The injured -- Abdul Aziz Syed Mullani (55), Javed Salim Sheikh (34), Narendra Bawane (35), Devidas Wagh (34) and Sufiyan Abdul Hasan (23) have been shifted to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi for treatment. The Disaster Management Officer Santosh Kadam said that fire brigade and personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were engaged in rescuing people trapped in the debris.
Ashok Rankhamb, Commissioner of Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation said the authorities vacated the entire building but some people entered the building without permission. "We had received a message that column of the building might dismantle. Our emergency team reached here and after examination, they found that the building might collapse", he said.
The Commissioner of the region further added saying that, " It was then the building collapsed. 4 people were rescued, of them one died. It's an 8-year-old building & was built illegally. Investigation will be done", he said.
