New Delhi, August 8: The much-touted National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) BHIM app has been failing to live up to its promises! After promising a cashback, customers have raised concerns about its fake promises and said it failed to do so since June. According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, the number of transactions witnessed a surge after BHIM App rolled out such luring offers for its people. After customers were betrayed, several users took to Twitter to raise complaints about the fake promise.

BHIM is a smart mobile phone-based app based on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) that allows simple, easy and quick payment transactions using UPI. In April 2017, the NCPI had claimed that over 30 banks are participating on BHIM Aadhaar and more member banks shall be on-board.

The report further informs that several users complained that from June, they never received a cash back as promised. As per the cashback offer announced by BHIM app, the cash back needs to be credited by 10th of each month. It must be noted that NPCI initiated #BHIMse for users to get Rs 51 as cash back on first transaction to give a fillip to digital payments in India.

According to the report by Deccan Chronicle, a customer could avail a cash back up to Rs 750 every month and merchants would get Rs 1,000. The report further informs that a regular user would get Rs 25 as cash back for every unique transaction, with a minimum value of Rs 100, and a maximum cashback of Rs 500. But on July 17, NPCI said that the cash back for BHIM transactions would be restricted to new users. Enraged by the sudden change in rules, customers using the BHIM app alleged that it is the only app in country that did not give the promised cash back.

The BHIM app was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Digi Dhan mela at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on December 30, 2016. It was named after B. R. Ambedkar and is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks as part of the 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation and drive towards cashless transactions.
