Bhavnagar Railway Station, Built in 19th Century, All Set to Get a New Look as Railways Sanction Rs 8 Crore for Restoration Work

Bhavnagar, October 11: Bhavnagar railway station is all set to get a facelift after the railway ministry sanctioned Rs 8 crore for the renovation work. The railway station was built during the British rule in the 19th century. As per reports, the station was built on the request of Maharaja Takhtasinhji (King of Bhavnagar). For the convenience of passengers, several facilities will be added including air-conditioned waiting room for men and women, expanding the parking area, providing lifts and escalators for the convenience of passengers. It is also estimated that the railway premises will be fully CCTV secured.

Bhavnagar, which comes under the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, is one of the major industrial and commerce hubs. Bhavnagar has many small and large scale industries along with world's largest ship-breaking yard. Being such a major hub, there has been an increasingly high demand for trains between Bhavnagar and Surat. There are daily 300 buses running between these two cities. Due to less frequency of trains, bus operators charge high prices during the festive season, since the travellers have no other option than paying extra. It is also expected that train frequency between the two cities will be increased after the restoration work.
