Bharat Ratna For Pranab Mukherjee, Nanaji Deshmukh & Bhupen Hazarika; PM Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Congratulate and Remember Recipients of India's Highest Civilian Award
President Pranab Mukherjee along with social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and playback singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika on Friday were conferred with India’s highest honour, Bharat Ratna.
New Delhi, January 25: Former President Pranab Mukherjee along with social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and playback singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika on Friday were conferred with India’s highest honour, Bharat Ratna. Deshmukh and Hazarika were awarded the highest honour posthumously. The announcement was made on the eve of Republic Day 2019.
There is a flood of congratulatory messages from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and other top politicians and famous personalities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Pranab Mukherjee for getting Bharat Ratna. He also appreciated the contribution of Deshmukh and Hazarika in their respective fields.
Union Minister Arun Jaitley also complimented all the three recipients of the highest civilian honour. Nanaji Deshmukh Conferred Country’s Highest Civilian Award Bharat Ratna Posthumously, Know More About the Leader Who Served Rural India.
Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani remembered Hazarika for his contribution to the world of art and culture.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also congratulated Mukherjee for receiving the award. Patnaik also remembered Hazarika and Deshmukh in his tweet.
Meanwhile, the Former President thanked expressed gratitude after receiving the award. He tweeted, "It is with a deep sense of humility and gratitude to the people of India that I accept this great honour #BharatRatna bestowed upon me. I have always said and I repeat, that I have got more from the people of our great country than I have given to them."
The Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award of the Republic of India instituted in 1954. The award is conferred in recognition of the exceptional performance of the highest order in various fields. The recommendations for the Bharat Ratna are made by the Prime Minister to the President, with a maximum of three nominees being awarded per year.
