Kolkata, November 9: Idris Ali, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP on Friday said that West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee should be awarded the Bharat Ratna as she is a symbol of national integration. According to a tweet by ANI, Ali said Banerjee is a symbol of harmony and development and she is an unparalleled lady. Ali said, as Banerjee ha all these qualities in her, she should be awarded the prestigious Bharat Ratna.

This is not the first time that the Trinamool Congress MP has praised Mamata Banerjee. Even in July 2016, Ali had equated his party supremo Mamata Banerjee is like 'Goddess Saraswati' and 'Mother Teresa'. According to a report by PTI, Ali equated Mamata to Goddess Saraswati and Mother Teresa in the Lok Sabha while speaking about issues of West Bengal and his constituency Basirhat. Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami Seeks Bharat Ratna for Jayalalithaa, C N Annadurai. 

In November 2016, the TMC MP compared Banerjee to national icons like Rabindranath Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi and said the West Bengal Chief Minister's photograph should be kept in every household in the country.

On the second anniversary of demonetisation on November 8, the TMC Chief took a dig at the Centre and alleged that demonetisation was initiated by the Modi government for the benefit of a handful of people, saying the common people were the worst sufferers. Banerjee termed 8th November 2016 as the  “darkest day of India". She said the worst sufferers of demonetisation were the agriculture sector, small businessmen, labourers, farmers, the unemployed, domestic workers, poor traders and others.
