The government has further warned central trade unions of "consequences" if they go on a proposed 24-hour nationwide strike. According to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel said, "Any employee going on strike in any form would face the consequences which, besides deduction of wages, may also include appropriate disciplinary action."
New Delhi, January 8: Ten central trade unions have claimed that approximately 25 crore people will participate in the nationwide strike today. This strike is taking place to protest against the "anti-people" policies of the government.

The trade unions have also condemned the violence on JNU campus and across other university campuses. Besides condemning the violence in college campuses, they also expressed dissatisfaction over no Indian labour conference being organised since July 2015 and other matters.
Services at several banks could be affected today as six bank unions will participate in the strike. So customers can face problems as banking services like ATMs and branch services will be affected due to the strike. However, those using NEFT and IIMPS services won't be affected by the strike.
