Jammu, November 30: A professor in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday sparked a row after he referred to Bhagat Singh as a 'terrorist' while teaching students in a college classroom. According to reports, a senior professor of the Jammu University was heard teaching students that revolutionary freedom-fighter Bhagat Singh was not a 'hero' but a 'terrorist'. Anguished students accused the professor of hurting their sentiments and lodged a complaint against him. After the complaint was filed, an inquiry was ordered into the incident. Reports inform that the professor has been suspended from his duties.

However, Prof. Mohammad Tajuddin refuted the claims and said his lecture has been misinterpreted. The professor informed that he was teaching Lenin (Russian revolutionary) and in that context, he said state calls any violence against it 'terrorism'. He further claimed that someone took a short video of his two-hour lecture which was circulated on social media. "Someone took a 25-second video out of my 2-hrs lecture. Terrorist word came in that, it wasn't what I meant. Still, if anyone is hurt, I'm really sorry for it", Tajuddin added. The professor said he also consider Bhagat Singh a revolutionary and said he is one of the people who sacrificed their lives for the country.

According to a report by The Tribune, Vinay Thusoo, official spokesperson of the university, said a high-level committee headed by the senior-most professor of the university has been formed to look into the complaint of students that professor Mohammad Tajuddin called freedom fighter Bhagat Singh a “terrorist”.'
