BEST Bus Strike in Mumbai Enters Third Day, Central Railways Runs Extra Local Trains; Check Schedule

Mumbai, January 10: Lakhs of commuters in Mumbai continued to face the brunt of the indefinite strike called by the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply Transport (BEST) even on Thursday. As the BEST Strike entered the third day on Thursday, the Central Railways rolled out extra trains to help travellers reach their destinations without much delay. The Central Railway CPRO stated that in view of BEST buses strike Mumbai Division will run extra sub-services.  BEST Bus Strike in Mumbai: 25 Lakh Commuters to be Affected as Red Buses to Go off Roads.

The protest, that coincided with the two-day strike called by 10 trade unions, affected nearly 25 lakh daily commuters. On Tuesday, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) claimed that 40 buses have been pressed into service in the metropolis to avoid inconvenience.

The Central Railway will run the extra train from Thane to CSMT, CSMT to Kalyan, Vashi to CSMT and CSMT to Panvel. Take a look at the schedule.

On the main line:

The train will depart from Thane at 13.44 hrs (1.44 PM ) and will reach CSMT at 14.40 hrs (2.40 PM). Meanwhile, from CSMT, a special train will depart at 14.49 hrs (2.49 PM) and will reach Kalyan 16.15 hrs (4.15 PM).

On the Harbour line:

The special train will depart from Vashi 13.44 hrs (1.44 PM) and will reach CSMT at 14.32 hrs (2.32 PM). Another train will depart from CSMT at 14.45 hrs (2.45 PM) and will reach Panvel at 16.05 hrs (4.05 PM).

Over 32,000 BEST employees went on an indefinite strike on Tuesday over various demands, including higher salaries. With a fleet of over 3,200 buses, the BEST is the second-biggest mode of transport in Mumbai after local trains, which ferry over 80 lakh passengers every day.

According to reports, the BEST employees are demanding higher pay, merging budget of the loss-making transport undertaking with that of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), deliberations on new wage agreement, resuming appointments on compassionate grounds and a bonus equivalent to that of the civic body's employees.
