Bengaluru, April 23: A tragic incident took place on Sunday night, April 21, when Shazia Jannat, a one-and-a-half-year-old child, was hit and killed by her own father's SUV car. The incident happened at around 11:25 pm in Agara village of HSR Layout in Bengaluru, Karnataka. According to HSR Layout traffic police, the accident occurred not long after Shazia's family returned from a relative's wedding in Channapatna. When the family got out of the SUV, Shazia's father reversed the car, unintentionally hitting the child. The toddler got crushed beneath the offside wheel, according to a report by TOI.
Shazia's father drove without realising what had happened until he was told about it by other family members. The entire tragic scene was caught on an adjacent building's CCTV camera. Meanwhile, the data on fatal accidents in Bengaluru was recently made public by the traffic police. The data indicated a significant rise in accidents occurring on weekends as opposed to weekdays. The day of the week with the greatest frequency of fatal accidents was found to be Sundays in particular. Together, Saturdays and Sundays accounted for more than 32 per cent of all fatal accidents that were reported in 2023. Of all the fatal incidents that were recorded throughout the course of the year, 152 happened on Sundays and 133 on Saturdays. Weekends are known to have a spike in fatal accident rates because there is less traffic, which encourages automobiles and motorcycles to accelerate. Authorities are becoming concerned about weekend road safety measures as a result of this development.
