Bengaluru, September 30: A 29-year-old woman in Bengaluru stages a kidnapping cum robbery at Bhoganahalli on September 20. to retrieve her former boyfriend’s mobile phone, which contained private photos. The accused was arrested on Saturday, September 28. She is facing faces charges of dacoity, having executed the plan with the assistance of several accomplices.
According to a report by Indian Express, the accused, identified as P Shruthi, invited her ex-boyfriend, Dumpa Vamshi Krishna Reddy, to a location on a scooter on the night of September 20. When they arrived, she gestured to an accomplice, Manoj, to carry out the theft. The men took both of their mobile phones and later returned them to Shruti that same night. During the investigation of a complaint, police made a breakthrough when Manoj Kumar, who is a painter by profession, disclosed that Shruti had paid him ₹1.1 lakh to execute the theft. The city police also arrested Shruti's associates, Manoj Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Honnappa, and Venkatesh, all of whom reside in Kodathi, Bengaluru. The police were investigating a complaint from Reddy, who reported that he and his girlfriend had their mobile phones snatched by a group of men after a minor traffic altercation near a commercial store. Reddy claimed that a Swift Dzire cab had rear-ended their bike, leading two men to exit the vehicle and steal their phones. However, police found no evidence of an accident at the scene. Instead, four men had blocked the couple and took their phones, falsely claiming that the couple had damaged their car.
Shruti informed the police that she felt insecure after her breakup with Reddy and worried he might misuse their intimate photos. Even though he assured her he deleted them, he wouldn’t let her have his phone, raising her suspicions. She then reached out to Manoj, a former worker at her house, and bribed him to assist with the robbery, providing him INR1.1 lakh to assemble a team. However, after attempting to unlock Reddy’s phone and finding it locked, she became frustrated and disposed of the device in Singasandra Lake the next day.
