Udupi, June 3: Four teenage boys, all students of a prestigious private school, have been charged with creating and circulating morphed obscene images of seven young girls, including current students and alumnae of the same institution. A case has been registered against the offenders under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and IT Act.
According to the Times of India report, the case came to light when the father of a 17-year-old victim filed a complaint with the Bharatinagar police on May 30. The complainant's daughter, a class 12 student, was alerted by a schoolmate about the existence of the morphed images on May 28. Investigations revealed that the images were being shared in a private WhatsApp group, to which only the four accused boys had access. Upon discovery, the victim's brother confronted one of the accused and found the objectionable content on his mobile phone. It was reported that one of the perpetrators was an acquaintance of the victim, having connected with her on Instagram before misusing her photographs. The school authorities expressed their inability to take action, citing the boys' non-enrollment status. Consequently, the matter was escalated to the police. The authorities have registered a case under the Information Technology Act and IPC section 354 A pertaining to sexual harassment. The accused have admitted to their actions and have agreed to delete the images. The police have seized their devices and are currently investigating whether the photos were distributed further.
