Bengaluru, August 27: A man from the city was taken into custody following an incident where he stabbed an elderly person, thinking they were the owner of a dog that had barked at him. The incident occurred this week on 17th Cross in the Malleswaram area of the city. The assailant, identified as H Raju, a 57-year-old daily-wage labourer, assaulted Balasubramanya HV, a 62-year-old resident of Rajajinagar, on the street.
According to a report published in Times of India, the police said that the dog that attacked the accused was likely a stray. They also mentioned that the injured person was treated at KC General Hospital before being discharged to go home. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM on August 21 when the accused was walking along the sidewalk on his route back to his room in Yeshwantpur, having finished his work in Seshadripuram. Coincidentally, the victim approached from the opposite direction when the dog suddenly growled and chased the attacker. The accused told the cops that the dog walking behind the victim started barking at him. As soon as he started walking briskly, the dog started chasing him. Following this, he ran to the opposite pavement to escape from the dog. When the dog disappeared, he got angry at the man as he thought it was his dog. The accused hastily fled the scene as bystanders rushed to the spot. The onlookers came to the aid of the victim, helping him reach the hospital where he underwent treatment. Subsequently, the victim approached the police with his account of the incident. Using CCTV footage, the police identified the accused and took him into custody on charges of attempted murder.
