Bengaluru, May 9: In a disturbing turn of events, a water purifier technician was arrested in Bengaluru after he subjected a 30-year-old woman to sexual assault at her home in Begur in southeast Bengaluru. The woman, Mihika (name changed), a software engineer by profession, had requested routine service for her water purifier on May 4. However, when the technician dispatched for the service realised that the victim was alone at home decided to take advantage of the situation. The victim, who was busy with other kitchen chores, was groped by the technician from behind.

According to a report by the Times of India, the ordeal began when she raised a service request with the manufacturer on May 4, seeking to reinstall the appliance. Despite the delayed response, a technician arrived at her doorstep the next day around 5 pm. Upon the technician's instruction to switch off the main power, Mihika complied and proceeded with her chores in the kitchen. As per the report, startled Mihika managed to push the technician out of the Kitchen and locked herself inside. Mihika immediately called her friend and asked for help. Responding to her distress call, her friend immediately reached her house and found the technician waiting in the hall for Mihika to come out. Bleeding from the altercation, he fled the scene, abandoning the repair equipment. Mihika promptly lodged a complaint with Begur police, who initiated a search for the accused. After apprehending him, the police invoked IPC Section 354 A (sexual harassment) and commenced an inquiry into the incident. Despite attempts to evade authorities, the accused was brought in for questioning, shedding light on the gravity of the offence and the swift response required to ensure justice for the victim.
