Mumbai, August 22: The Bengaluru police recently arrested a 22-year-old youth in a chain-snatching incident. The accused, identified as Manjunath alias Mass Manja took an unusual pledge of getting his head tonsured if his first attempt at chain snatching was successful. Mass Manja was reportedly encouraged by his prison friend to try his hand at chain-snatching. After successfully snatching a chain, the accused fulfilled his vow and tonsured his head as promised.
However, Mass Manja ran out of luck as he was caught by cops immediately. According to a report in the Times of India, the accused was arrested when he returned to the city from a pilgrimage to Male Mahadeshwara Hills, where he fulfilled his vow of tonsuring his head. Soon after his return, cops arrested both Mass Manja and Yathish (25), who taught the accused the basics of chain-snatching. Cops said the accused was also involved in criminal cases, including robbery. The accused met Yathish at the Central Prison in Bengaluru. During their stint in jail, Yathish asked Mass Manja to resort to chain-snatching if he wanted to make easy money. Soon after the duo left jail, Manjunath decided to become a chain-snatcher.
Manjunath even vowed to visit his family deity Male Mahadeshwara and get his head tonsured if his job was successful. On August 13, the duo allegedly snatched a 25-gram gold chain from an elderly woman who was on her morning walk in Girinagar. Later, Mass Manja took some cash and left to pay a visit to his family deity. Over there, he shaved his head, thus fulfilling his vow.
