Bengaluru Man Falls Prey to 'Fake WhatsApp Ad', Tries to Sell His Kidney for Rs 1.6 Crore

Bengaluru, November 5: A man from Bengaluru actually took a WhatsApp message seriously and tried to sell his kidney for Rs 1.6 crore. The man has claimed that he had seen an ad from a famous senior doctor from Columbia Asia Hospital in Bengaluru had posted. The man, identified as MB Somashekar, a stenographer by profession, was in dire need of money. Somashekar claimed that Dr Arun Wesley David, the HoD of Renal Transplant Surgery in a hospital had posted an advertisement on a website, which he doesn't remember. Doctors Remove 856 Stones From 45-Year-Old Man’s Kidney in Delhi.

He also claimed that he talked to a person impersonating as Dr David and the person promised him a sum of Rs 1.6 crore for his one kidney. According to a report in a leading newspaper, an officer investigating the case said, "Somashekar is said to have shown the WhatsApp messages and subsequent conversations on various dates where Dr David’ allegedly had been in contact with him about the sale of his kidney. However, he could not remember the name of the website or its URL."

The impersonator had asked Somashekar to go to the hospital with relevant id proofs so that all the formalities could be completed. When he walked into the hospital, the entire staff was in a state of shock. After this, Dr David said the number doesn't belong to him and someone was fooling him. Later, he filed a complaint regarding the same. Cyber police have registered a complaint under section 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
