Bengaluru, August 19: The Bengaluru police recently arrested nine people, including two women, for allegedly detaining a woman and her 20-year-old son to extort money from them. Police officials also said that the accused sexually harassed the 40-year-old woman. During the investigation, cops found that the woman's son was a habitual offender who used to steal mobile phones.
They also said that the victim's son was also involved in chain-snatching cases. According to a report in the Times of India, the arrested accused have been identified as Joseph, Srinivas alias Pagal Seena, Soumya, Prathap, Jathin, Vignesh, Syed Shahbuddin, Swathi, and Madesha. Cops said that the 20-year-old youth would steal mobile phones and snatch chains while his mother would dispose of the stolen property. Both are said to be residents of West Bengaluru. Police officials said that the victim's son's two friends, Shakti and Basavaraju, gave him some stolen items and asked him to dispose of them through his mother. A gang, including two rowdies, Joseph and Pagal Seena, learned about this. They suspected that the mother-son duo were allegedly involved in mobile and chain thefts.
The gang also suspected them of making money to the tune of INR 2 lakh by disposing of the stolen items. To extort money from them, the gang kidnapped the mother-son duo from Chandra Layout on August 13. Later, they confined the duo at a house belonging to two other accused in Kengeri. Cops said that out of the nine accused, a few of them physically and sexually assaulted the woman.
