Bengaluru, December 22: Winter fog disrupted operations at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The operations were suspended from 6:30 am to 7:30 am due to which all flights were delayed by over an hour. Earlier this month, also, the blanket of dense fog resulted in the suspension of operations at the airport. As many as 63 flights were delayed that day due to dense fog, out of which 45 flights could not take off from the airport as per schedule. Meanwhile, the arrival 15 other flights were also delayed. In November too, Bengaluru airport operations were suspended due to fog. A total of 39 flights from the airport were delayed. According to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) called it a common phenomenon in winters. After the delay in November, the BIAL in a statement said that with winter setting in, environmental hindrances such as fog and consequent visibility issues have an impact on aircraft movement which often leads to flight delays and diversions. Meanwhile, Kempegowda International Airport generally experiences radiation fog formed by thermal radiation when the land cools down after sunset. Due to this phenomenon flights are affected between November and February. Last year, on New Year’s Eve, Delhi witnessed over 270 flight delays, 50 diversion and 35 cancellations due to fog.
