Bengaluru's BBMP has introduced new pet guidelines, prohibiting societies from banning pets and making it illegal to use sticks to chase dogs. The updated rules include specific feeding restrictions and monitoring of RWAs.
Bengaluru, July 26: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recently introduced updated guidelines for Bengaluru communities that feed pets. The civic body also emphasised that Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) are not permitted to ban community animals, pets, street dogs, or cats in residential layouts, common areas, or lifts. Additionally, using sticks to chase away dogs would be considered illegal.
Further, RWAs will be closely monitored regarding their treatment of pets. Their bylaws are required to ensure that they do not negatively impact the presence of animals within the housing society. Pets must be permitted in common areas, and the use of a leash muzzle on lifts is not mandatory. List of Guidelines for RWA
- Feeding communities, which often provide food to stray dogs, are advised to avoid offering meat and sugary biscuits, as these can make the dogs overly energetic.
- Pet owners are also encouraged to maintain their pets' hygiene and groom them regularly.
- In areas with high population density, feeding should be avoided.
- Regular feeding is recommended to prevent aggressive behaviour in animals.

If someone fails to adhere to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) guidelines, they may face penalties or legal action. This could include fines or other consequences determined by the BBMP.
