Bengaluru, October 8: A tragic case of food poisoning has come to light from Bengaluru where a 5-year-old boy died, and his parents are in critical condition after eating a cake brought home by his father, a Swiggy delivery executive. The boy has been identified as Dheeraj. His parents, Balaraj and Nagalakshmi, remain in critical condition in the ICU. The incident occurred in Bhubaneswari Nagar where the family resides.
Indian Express reported that on Sunday night, Balaraj, a food delivery executive, and his son had dinner together. Early Monday morning, the family woke up with severe stomach pain. Neighbours rushed them to a private hospital, but doctors declared that Dheeraj had died en route. His parents were found unconscious and were admitted to the ICU at KIMS Hospital. Initial investigations suggest the family consumed stale food stored in their refrigerator. There is also speculation about a cake Balaraj had brought home after a customer canceled an online order. The family had shared the cake with dinner, after which they all fell ill. The hospital confirmed that Dheeraj’s death was caused by food poisoning, and forensic tests are underway to determine the exact source. A case has been registered at KP Agrahara Police Station, and authorities are waiting for the couple to regain consciousness to record their statements.
In response, Swiggy issued a statement expressing sorrow and confirming their full cooperation with the investigation. “Food safety is a top priority for us, and we require all restaurant partners to have an FSSAI license before they are listed on our platform,” the company said.
