Bengaluru, Sept 29: The Bellandur lake, known for spewing toxic foams, froth again upto 10-feet high on Tuesday, following incessant rains on the two preceding days. The fresh frothing incident has left Bengaluru residents fuming at the JD(S)-Congress government in the state.

The new government, locals said, had assured to address the lake-frothing issue on immediate basis. However, no steps have been taken to tackle the menace, which has hazardously affected the health of people residing in the vicinity. Bellandur Lake Largest Septic Tank of Bengaluru, Says NGT Appointed Panel.

On being questioned over alleged inaction, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said the government is taking serious measures towards detoxicating the 900-acre water body. "Rs 50 crore have been set aside for the same in the budget," added, Parameshwara, who heads the Bengaluru Development charge.

The authorities had recently erected tall fences in a bid to prevent the foams from entering the residential premises. The step, however, has yielded limited results. Activists have demanded measures to address the underlying issue which causes the lake to froth.

The lake has turned toxic to an unprecedented level due to the release of chemicals and detergents by scores of industries in the region. The frothing drew global media's attention after the toxic foams caught fire in 2016. The National Green Tribunal had rapped the then Siddaramaiah-led government for inaction.
